What's my project about?
During one of my assignments, I noticed that people could get a lot of pleasure from a simple bunch of tulips. Tulips bring out creativity, joy and the feeling of spring in people.
This inspired me to make a series of photos in homage to the tulip.
The tulip can be seen as thé ultimate symbol of spring!
In the past the tulip was a difficult flower to grow and this would be the case for a long time.
They were still very popular in demand and therefore very expensive/precious. The tulip can still be considered as the number one bulb, but a lot has changed since! Nowadays nearly half of all the flower fields in Holland are filled with only tulips. So/And during the tulip season, their popularity is still very noticeable in various colors and shapes at people’s homes. Both young and old, Dutch or from a different culture, everyone loves tulips.
Unfortunately, we can only enjoy tulips for a brief moment . Tulips need/require the cold nights of winter to come to into blossom. As the weather gets warmer, they are becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain.Around the the end of June the tulips completely cease to blossom. Meaning that you are no longer able to purchase them until the next season. This will cause a "temporary" halt/ending to the explosion of joy, and other positive feelings the tulips bring along.
Until that time comes I have a goal; I would like to make awesome serie of 100 photo's where a mixed group of people, or an individual is shown with one or more bunches of tulips.
The Netherlands is a multicultural country, and even despite the fact that every culture is different, there are also many similarities. The shared love of tulips is one of them, and that is something I would like to capture.
Therefore my ode to the tulips.
